Healthy Apple & Banana Mini Muffins (Baby, Toddler + Lunchbox Friendly)
These super simple muffins are always a winner… even with big kids! Bake a big batch and pop some in the freezer — the whole family will love them.
This recipe has been a favourite in our house since my boys were 9 months old. Now at 10 and 11 years old, they still gobble them up. They’re delicious, fuss-free, and made without refined sugar, just natural sweetness from apples and bananas.
As a busy mum, I wanted something quick, wholesome, and tasty. With just nine simple ingredients, these muffins tick every box.
Ingredients

1 ¾ cups wholemeal plain flour
4 tsp baking powder
4 tsp ground cinnamon
4 eggs
100 g unsalted butter (or olive oil for dairy-free)
1 cup of milk
3–4 large mashed bananas
400 g tin sliced apples cut into smaller pieces (I love Ardmona as they’re 100% fruit, no syrup)
½ cup apple sauce
Makes 12 large muffins or 24 minis.
Method
1. Mix the dry ingredients — flour, baking powder, cinnamon. No need to sift!
2. Melt the butter (or use olive oil). I suggest 60 seconds on low in the microwave.
3. Whisk eggs with milk, then stir in the butter. Combine with the dry ingredients.
4. Add the fruit - fold through mashed bananas, apple slices cut into smaller pieces, and apple sauce. Your mixture will be thick and full of goodness.
5. Bake — spoon the mixture into muffin trays and bake at 180°C (360°F) for approximately 15 minutes for mini muffins or 25 minutes for large muffins. Check with a skewer if it comes out clean, they’re ready!
Here’s the finished product, golden, soft, and full of flavour. Ideal for little hands as a quick toddler snack, and just as handy for school lunches or an after-school treat.
